Week 5 - 5th December

Week 5: 5th December 2012
The following paragraph really gained my attention: "Leadership means many things to different people, and different sport organisations require different types of leaders in different situations, for example: “The choice of having two young captains for the Melbourne Football Club is a good example". I think and have learned from experience that a leader is the most important part of any sport. Even individual sports such as athletics which can be non-profit but is run by government sectors: You would call your leader your coach, and if you don’t have the right coach that works for you and your efforts then the bond between the two of you will not last.

Week 4 - 30th November

Week 4: 30th November 2012
After reading the article: Perry given ultimatum by W-League club http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-05-29/perry-given-ultimatum-by-w-league-club/4039886
I discovered that in most circumstances a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis is a good starting point for any major sport organisation's decision-making process.
The article teaches me that they have formed this strategy as they need someone that will be training every day with the team mates and learning the team objectives. I personally don’t think it should be an issue. However in a government run sport it is. Under any circumstance there is always a reason for your strategy and why you put it together, just as it states in the article, that’s why in my opinion I would highly recommend the SWOT, as I have has to use it many times before.

Week 3 - 23rd November

Week 3: 23rd November 2012
The most interesting factor in week three that i really took knowledge away from was that sports structures exist at all levels for all different sport, and all levels of sport from elite to fun activities, with each playing an important role in managing the sport itself.
There are many factors that influence strategies for a sports organisation. All though managers have control over the final product and design for example there are some things that cannot be controlled.

Week 2 - 16th November

Week 2: 16th November 2012
"The government has the capacity to significantly shape the structure and scope of a country's sport through facilities, funding programs, regulation and laws, and the development of elite athletes. Political ideologies can influence how and why sport is developed in particular countries."
After reading the following link http://www.london2012.com/about-us/funding/
Funding for the recent London Olympics, you can clearly see the investment made to build the Olympic village, and where the funding has come from and how it has left London with world class facilities to be used and see the benefits this has done for sport and a nation. It is however developed by politics and this will result in how the facilities will be used. You can’t escape or divide sport or venues from politics especially government funded.

Week 1 - 9th November

Week 1: 9th November 2012
When reading the article on the three sectors of sport, I never realised how much they overlap and a sense of how many organisations are involved in sport management.
The state is highly involved in funding and providing the funds to non-profit sport organisations. This allows these programs to provide the community with sporting opportunities, athletes, coaches, administrators and spectators the development and participation. The state also provides sporting venues and the non-profit organisations provide the sporting talent and support the venues.
